Christopherson war einer der Mitbegründer von Throbbing Gristle, gründete nach deren Auflösung zusammen mit Genesis P. Orridge die Industrial-Rock-Band Psychic TV und war ab 1984 ein Teil von Coil.

Das Label Industrial Records, in dem er mitwirkte, begründete Ende der 70er Jahre einer ganzen Bewegung mit dem Namen Industrial. Er gilt als eine Gallionsfiguren des frühen britischen Industrials und der elektronischen Pop-Avantgarde,
