THE FESTIVAL
In October 2009, the Canteen Media and Arts Centre will present F.O.N (Full of Noises), a new international festival of contemporary music and sound art. F.O.N is about new work, new audiences and new creative partnerships. Our site in the heart of Barrow’s shipyard offers an ideal setting for site–specific sonic artwork, with the unique layout of the building leading to a blurring of the distinction between workspace and performance space. Over five days, the festival will present a programme of research, production and public events, within three distinct strands:
PERFORMANCES
Building on a regular series of experimental and improvised music evenings, the Canteen will present two days of live performances from a wide range of sound artists and musicians. In addition to showcasing work by resident artists (see above), the festival will present live performances by artists of national and international standing. Confirmed artists include: FAUST (performing a one-off live accompaniment to F.W. Murnau’s film ‘Faust’), PRAM, RICHARD YOUNGS, BLACK CARROT, GOOD NOISE BAD NOISE and MARK PILKINGTON.

- Sunday, 25th, from 1am - 2am BST (GMT+1), tbc This is the hour after which BST ends and the clock goes back to 1am (same happens in central Europe). Therefore this hour does not exist and is not subject to any regulations or common sense. We invite all artists of FON to celebrate the ending of the festival in an improvised live transmission that is truly ephemeral.
