Harry Crews

Thanks to fans of Bibliodiscoteque and Harry Crews for recommending this podcast be created. Several years ago, I lived in a small city in Pa. and had a friend who read a great deal of literature. Mostly we hung out at the local coffee shop and he would mention what he was reading. One fine May morning he was enthusiastically gesticulating over a book he had just discovered. In it a man had shredded and eaten an entire car. Don gave me copy, along with Cerebus and Stray Bullets for the record, and demanded I read it. It languished on my bookshelf until I moved to New England.

Several years later I am looking for new reads and a woman from Europe tells me about a great author in my own continental backyard: Harry Crews. I searched around and found a couple of his novels, ripping through them like that grotesque family at a Grand Buffet. I shoveled his words into my eyes feasting on the various atrocities and gasping out loud. This was very much demanding a podcast.

Then I found Car sitting in my collection of books. I was immediately transported to back to Pa. This is the podcast that was fated to happen. I keep my mouth shut for most of it so you can simply enjoy the fluidity of the tracks and the narrative of the listing. Harry Crews is a reoccurrence in my life and I hope I do his work justice.
